Day 1: Tuesday, September 8th - Departure from the USA 

Direct overnight flight from Philadelphia to Rome on American Airlines



Day 2: Wednesday, September 9th - Arrive in Italy, Visit Viterbo

Arrive at Rome Fiumicino airport, meet your tour manager and your adventure begins!  Transfer to Viterbo the major town of the Tuscia area. It is a hidden gem in the Lazio region, rich with medieval charm, thermal baths, and historical architecture. The town offers a journey back in time through the halls of the elegant Papal Palace and through intact medieval alleys. Your guide will offer you an introduction to the city. Enjoy a light lunch before heading to your nearby hotel.  After check-in, there will be a welcome dinner and music at hotel restaurant.

Day 3: Thursday, September 10th - Visit Lake Bolsena, Bagnoregio and Montefiascone

After breakfast at the hotel, you will visit Lake Bolsena, the largest volcanic lake in Europe, surrounded by a scenic road offering a magnificent view of the surroundings.  You will see charming Medieval towns and enjoy a short boat cruise to admire the natural beauty of the lake.

Later you reach the extremely unique town of Civita di Bagnoregio.  Its charm lies in the mesmerizing location place in an isolated hilltop only accessible by a footbridge (photo below).

Later you will visit Montefiascone, a popular town famous for its production of wine, most notably the world renown white "Est Est Est".  Visit the winery and enjoy dinner with a wine tasting and music.

Day 4: Friday, September 11th - Visit Tarquinia and Tuscania

After breakfast spend a leisurely morning to enjoy the amazing hotel spa and pools, with special spa access included today. Later, depart for Tarquinia and its world-famous Etruscan necropolis. The Monterozzi Necropolis, with its vividly painted tombs, dates back to the 7th century BC. You also visit the Tarquinia National Museum and come face to face with beautifully carved sarcophagi with decorative features that still sparkle.

You’ll spend the early evening in Tuscania.  Its serene location, well off the beaten path, contains a city center wrapped in medieval walls and idyllic views over the rolling hills of northern Lazio.  Dinner and music in Tuscania tonight.

Day 5: Saturday, September 12th - Visit Caprarola and Villa Lante

Enjoy breakfast at the Hotel and prepare to experience some of the most incredible jewels of Italian 16th century architecture. Visit Palazzo Farnese at Caprarola, the incredible wonder of an aristocratic fortified villa. Then sample some of the best regional recipes at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Villa Lante in Bagnaia, featuring the incredible 16th century gardens of Villa Lante which are considered among the most significant in all of Italy. The venue is studded with fountains and waterworks, such as the famous stepping cascade which was a status symbol for powerful Italian cardinals. Evening is at leisure.

Day 6: Sunday, September 13th - Visit Orvieto

Orvieto is a jewel of the Umbria region and its settlement originates from the Etruscan times.  Ancient inhabitants of Orvieto carved their way through the volcanic rock creating tunnels and passageways in what became a labyrinth beneath the settlement. One can see streets, gates, and carved premises underground, and visit the Necropolis dating back to 600 BC.

Orvieto Cathedral is a major site in Italy and was founded at the end of the 13th century with masterpieces by Luca Signorelli. In 1527 during the “Sack of Rome” Pope Clement VII took refuge in Orvieto and commissioned construction of a well to serve as the water supply in case of siege. Know as the “Well of San Patrizio (Saint Patrick) it symbolically represents a descent into the afterlife and a form of redemption. It contains an ingenious system of two spiral staircases that never meet, allowing visitors to explore it today.

After experiencing all that Orvieto has to offer, you will relax at a local winery for a wine tasting, delicious local food and music.

Day 7: Monday, September 14th - Visit Orbetello & Porto Ercole

Enjoy breakfast before checking out of the hotel and heading to the Monte Argentario area. The gateway to Monte Argentario is Orbetello, a small walled town built into the lagoons between the mainland and the promontory. You will discover this charming pedestrian town with a guided walk. Later you will arrive at the Porto Ercole A Point Hotel and enjoy lunch. 

The afternoon will be at your leisure to enjoy the hotel pool or the nearby beach with clear fresh water. You can take a walk to discover the town Porto Ercole, a picturesque fishing village.  Its bay creates a natural Harbor lined with fishermen's houses, cafès, and restaurants.

Day 8: Tuesday, September 15th - Monte Argentario and Porto Santo Stefano

After breakfast at the hotel you will have the morning at leisure to enjoy the beach or pool. In the early afternoon you will discover the Monte Argentario with a scenic drive until you  reach Porto Santo Stefano, one of its two port towns. Colorful houses are built into the terraced cove and surround the 16th century Spanish Fort. You’ll have. Guided walk and time to discover the village on your own. The evening is at your leisure in Porto Ercole with a concert.

Day 9: Wednesday, September 16th - Visit Pitigliano, Sovana and Sorano

After breakfast at the hotel. Today you visit the tuff cities of Pitigliano, Sovana and Sorano. The picturesque village of Pitigliano lies on a tuff rock spur dominating deep valleys with abundant vegetation. Together with Sovana and Sorano, it is one of the three “tuff towns”. The town is rich in history and culture and was nicknamed “Little Jerusalem” because it had been home to Jewish families fleeing their homelands since the 16th century.

Continue to Sovana with a preserved medieval layout and the ruins of the imposing Rocca Aldobrandesca, dating back to the 11th century. Completing the trio of tuff towns is Sorano, a great place to “lose yourself” in its narrow, winding alleys and lanes, carved out among the houses made of tuff and historic buildings in greyish-yellow stone with eye-catching architecture spanning several generations of builders. A farewell lunch and music will be at local restaurant. Evening at leisure.

Day 10: Thursday, September 17th - Departure to USA

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and transfer to the Rome Airport for your flight back home.
